Jah Wobble, bass guitarist and vocalist, was the original bass player for Public Image Ltd (PiL) during the late 1970s and early 1980s, contributing to the band’s early sound before leaving after two albums. Following his departure, Wobble embarked on a successful and prolific solo career. In 2012, he reunited with PiL guitarist Keith Levene for Metal Box in Dub and the album Yin & Yang. Wobble’s music spans a diverse range of genres including ambient, dance music and, in 2003, reimagined traditional English folk songs. While he has been releasing music since the early 1980s, he has remained especially prolific from the mid-1990s onward.
Spinner – with Brian Eno
The process of creation for Brian Eno and Jah Wobble’s Spinner LP, here given a reissue to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of its 1995 release, was rather unusual. Rather than making the record together, Wobble instead embellished recordings which Eno had laid down for the 1994 Derek Jarman film Glitterbug. It is perhaps this idiosyncratic process of production which makes Spinner an even more unique listen than what one might expect from a collaboration between Eno and Wobble.
